Give Away For Good

Project Over View

The Problem

Most users have a hectic schedule outside work/school. They have items that can be donated but lack the time and energy to take them to the donation center. The living space becomes cluttered with unused items.

The Solution

An application like “GIVE AWAY FOR GOOD” will help them pick up the items for donation and offers the option for resale some of their items through our app as well.

My Role

I collaborated with another UX/UI designer on the empathy, definition and ideation phases of the project, then I planned, wireframed, and prototyped the UI.
My Focuses' were on creating personas, working on user journey, competitor analysis, writing interview script, Sketching wire frames, working on prototype and testing

User Research

We aim to create a successful mobile application to help solve the issues for most users who have busy schedules but want to do good deeds by giving their gently used items to those in need and the potential of earning a bit of money back if they wish to resale some of those items.

Survey Data & Interviews

We have conducted 5 1x1 interviews and got 10 responses from surveys. The majority have busy schedules outside work/school. More than 50% take their children’s gently used clothes to the donation center. More than 70% have at least 1-2 boxes of the items for donation. Many of them would go to the donation center every few years or so. Most participants do not have large items or furniture for donation and they mostly move twice in the past ten year.

User Insight & Problem Statment

User Insight

Throughout interviews and surveys users were motivated by helping others and mentioned time constraints as a major pain point, especially when moving. Therefore, we believe that users could benefit from an app that would take care of the donation for them, and offer users the possibility to make a profit. How might we help users donate/resale their items with minimal time/energy?.

Problem Statement

Most users have a hectic schedule outside work/school. They have items that can be donated, but lack time and energy to take them to the donation center. Having an application like “GIVE AWAY FOR GOOD” to help them pick up the item would be ideal for solving the issues. On top of that the users will have the option for resale some of their items through our app as well.

Summary Of Feedback

  • It would be a good idea to include some coaching screens in the onboarding process to explain the features and purpose of the app.

  • Would it be better to just have an "upload item button" and then the user chooses to resale or donate the item? And then should that be the first step or last?

  • Very nice calendar design

  • It would be great to have filter options to browse for specific items

  • I'm curious to know why books & misc. is its own category, as opposed to having a misc. category by itself, and either including books in one of the other categories or having a separate book category as well. How we choose categories is something we will discuss in our current UI design unit.
